What is the Vermont Green Mountain National Forest?

It's a beautiful national forest that spans across 400,000 acres of land located in southwestern and central Vermont, located in Bennington, Addison, Rutland, Windham, Windsor, and Washington counties. You will find park areas such as Chittenden Brook Campground, Hapgood Pond Campground and Grout Pond Campsites.

Green Moutain National Forest

The National Forest is a recreational haven for Vermont residents and out-of-state visitors as well. The forest is home to a variety of hiking trails and scenic views that visitors enjoy year round. The Conservation Fund has helped add over 2000 acres to the the forest and has protected the Green Mountain Bear Corridor, a critical north to south area for black bears and other species.

Parts of the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail, and the Robert Frost National Recreation Trail, are located in the woodland forest. You will find
three alpine ski areas, seven Nordic ski areas, and about 900 miles of multi-use paths for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, and bicycling activities which are all part of the forest “things to do” and engage in.
